Internships Available with the
John Gomes for Mayor Campaign

The John Gomes for Mayor campaign seeks enthusiastic interns for the 2023 Mayoral Election!

 

Help the campaign reach its' goals of achieving ballot status for the Democratic primary election on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, registering new Democratic voters, and increasing voter turnout for the Democratic candidate on Election Day. Depending on the interns’ specific interests and academic/career goals, opportunities include, but are not limited to:

Ballot Access: Support John Gomes in efforts to appear on the Democratic ballot in the Bridgeport Mayoral primary election accordance with state laws. Participate and organize petition drives by collecting signatures and talking to voters about the candidate.

 

Voter Registration: Assist the Field Team and other campaign staff in implementing a citywide Democratic voter registration drive during the the campaign period.

 

Fundraising: Help the Fundraising Team raise the necessary funds for the campaign to be successful.

 

Media/Public Relations: Prepare press releases, social media posts and issue positions in conjunction with campaign staff.

 

Structure of the Internships

We are seeking interns to assist with campaign operations across the district. Interns will:

●      Recruit and train local volunteers to work together to host phone banks, canvasses and events

●      Keep campaign offices running at full capacity by assisting with field and communications efforts

●      Organize voter registration drives and other campaign events

●      Help maintain the campaign’s data base

Interns will work closely by phone and email with the Campaign Manager and other John Gomes staff. 

 

The duration and hours of the internship will depend on the intern’s availability and campaign needs. All internships are unpaid, but reimbursement for certain expenses will be available. Academic credit from the applicant’s home institution may be arranged. Women and persons of color are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants may reside in any part of the United States and will not be required to relocate.

 

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment to the John Gomes for Mayor campaign and help John get elected for the next Mayor of Bridgeport.

  • Commitment of at least 5-10 hours per week

  • Ability to remain in contact with campaign via email, phone and/or in-person meetings.

  • Good communications and organizational skills. Computer knowledge helpful.

About the John Gomes for Mayor campaign

John Gomes is running for Mayor of Bridgeport because our city deserves a  stronger voice. A lifelong resident of Bridgeport with a decades of experience in the private and public sector, John understands the local government process and how to get results for constituents like improving the city’s education system, public safety, sustainable economic development and make government more efficient. Our campaign truly

values the empowerment of students and community members through its internship program with the aim of providing young leaders an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the electoral process, develop leadership skills and actively engage in public service. We are seeking to design and run a new kind of coordinated grassroots campaign.
